SILLY PERSON, it was "legal" because the police did it and it was for "public safety". It is conditioning. when they have the opportunity to trample our rights, to in their mind protect the "greater good" they will. over time we will get used to it and we have. The key is to do it a little at a time, and they have. For goodness sake look how far they have gone already and right under our noses. We have military drones flying over major U.S. cities. we have some S.W.A.T. teams that some countries would want for their military and we have sheriff departments. in our own state with with boats equipped with machine guns and automatic grenade launchers. we have cities with surveillance and "traffic" cameras on almost every corner. Hell the mayor of Shreveport has stated that when a police officer pulls you over "your rights are suspended" that they, have power that not even the President has. We can't fly without being subjected to pat downs that in any other venue would be considered assault. Although if we choose to not have our children subjected to the molestation we have the option to put them through a scanner. This of course is totally harmless or so they tell us. keep in mind people used to go watch atom bombs go off.

Think we are becoming a police state? Think again, we are already there.
    Amen.
Ace, don't sweat the weak minded who suffer from lack of backbone, lack of hunger for liberty and who feel like they need a federal or state entity to take care of them. They just don't need to be free. They don't realize what they're giving up. They will not see a problem or a reason to demand or protect liberty no matter how bad it gets. No matter how convincing their arguement, they're really just trying to convince themselves by burying their heads in the sand and hope we all will join them. They are already gone.

[Devil'sAdvocate]Where is the line drawn? If this guy had raped your kid, or killed your entire family...would you be happy to hear that they let him go for the sake of not "violating" anyone's rights? They know where he is, and by simply temporarily detaining 20 people, the man that killed your family or raped your child could be caught. Or, they watch him drive away and he's never seen again. Is there ANY ends that justify the means? Same scenario, what if you were one of the ones handcuffed in order to catch a rapist/killer. Would you raise hell about your rights or be happy to have helped?[/Devil'sAdvocate]

I see that you often come down on the side of surrendering rights to police " when necessary ". Are you LEO ???

Slippery slope indeed . If they would not have done this and the dirt bag would have gotten away, never to be seen again or gone on a killing spree, they would be screaming the police didn't do enough.

    Now guys. Seriously.

You aren't going to actually say you wouldn't be PO'd as Hades if you or your family member- driving around minding your own business- were pulled over, handcuffed, and forced to stand around on the side of the road- along with twenty others in the same predicament- while people you may or may not know rubberneck at your guilty-looking asses on said-roadside, would you? If you say you wouldn't be, no offense- but there's a great chance that you are full of $h*t. Trying to justify bad behavior doesn't make sense- from ANY angle.

Despite some of the chain-jerking I do around here, I'm as pro-LE as you can get. My best friends & some of my family members are in that profession. They wouldn't approve, either. This CANNOT become acceptable behavior from our law enforcement in this country. Even though we owe them $$, this isn't China.

Yoy see where this is going, don't you? Soon, they will just lock everybody in the US up and say, "it's for the greater good. Now we know we have all the bad guys in jail". Same thing and don't try and say it ain't.

They already have new lockup FEMA facilities across the US. And they cannot hold all of us, so they will just execute everyone else and say "it's for the greater good" since we didn't have enough food or facilities to take care of them anyway.

I wouldn't know. What other information do you require?

Suit yourself, I guess, Bruh. IMHO- this looks like $hit.

Nobody was hurt, but the two dozen innocent people or so were detained for almost two hours

Yeah- I'm sure no one here would have a problem with that. :bowrofl:

Let the crap storm begin. The police chief stated in a press release that they had info that the BG was in 1 of 19 cars. In the short time investigated to locate the BG, it was narrowed to 19 cars out of thousands in the city. Those are pretty good odds to me. If any more time was taken to investigate/track he for sure would have ridden off into the sunset with evidence destroyed. Who knows how they tracked it? A tip, nosey follower, traffic cameras, drone aircraft, fortune teller???? They had the info, narrowed the pool and caught the guy and his guns. If i were pulled over and were innocent, I would comply to get a fugative and 2 semi auto pistols off the streets.

Now on the other hand, after watching footage from the actual removing people from there vehicles, I dont agree with the following:

Having shotguns pointed at innocent civillians being removed from there cars, some with kids in them. Come on man! Use some common sense. I know what it feels like clearing a car and having the unknown factor but this was mid day with 60 officers. Keep the barrels pointed up unless an actual threat is detected.

Parents being handcuffed behind there back while the kids are being kept in site but 20 feet away. Obviouslly the lady in her early 20's with a 2 year old and baby in her hands does not need to be cuffed or escorted to the curb with a loaded shotty.... jm2c DISCRESSION! Handcuff them all in the front for detainment and interview processes but only 1 out of the bunch was the actual guy. Dont treat all like criminals just use common sense officer safety.

It was reported that the people were held for 2 hours. Once again... come on man! How long does it take for a pat down, questions and to search a car for guns, money and a mask. People should have been removed, escorted out of the way. While being questioned be one officer, car being searched by a team of other officers. Once it was determined they were not the target, Move them to the shade with another officer until the scene was secured. 30 minutes tops in my opinion. The smoking gun is either there or it's not.

While they caught the guy, some actions were deemed by me to be a little extreme. But on the other hand if the bank robbers car would have passed a 7 11 or doughnut shop with 2 cops enjoying a break, the town would have been in a uproar over it. Just another case of you dammed if you do and your dammed if you dont i guess.

I have big shoulders. That was my opinion. Let the bashing begin... :draw:

    Thread win.

It wasn't a random stop or anything. They knew the suspect was in that group. More restraint should have been given, of course.

Hard to disagree with anything you said. It wouldn't have mattered if the police were polite and used furry cuffs though, the people that are pissed by it would still be pissed. You are absolutely right when you say damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Here we go again. Too many just don't get it. What has happened to the Constitutional rights of the citizens? What would you do if at an NFL football game someone committed an armed robbery inside the stadium? Handcuff 90 thousand innocents trying to catch one bg? That's what it looks like to me would happen.

The insanity taking place in America is mind boggling.
