Depends on where in texas, I'd live outside of san antonio in a heart beat.
I gotta agree with you on that one. I've always had a strong love for the Hill Country.

What would it be?
For me it would be idaho/montana. Give me 50 acres (mostly wooded) on the side of a mountain and I will be happy. Near a river or gravity fed water supply. My own firing range outside. Plenty of hunting and fishing, plus imo the most beautiful land in America.
I would like to live in a state of Bliss. Where there are no politicians or other criminal types. A place where the government kept it's nose out of people's business. Race baiters and welfare recipients were not allowed and every child was wanted and loved. A place where religions did not hate. Where honesty, integrity, and truth prevailed. There is no such place so the hill country of Texas is the next best thing.
Vermont......cuz I've always wanted to own a maple farm...and a diner that raised it's own pigs (bacon & ham) and chickens (eggs) served with, of course, maple syrup and an endless pile of pancakes!
Yeah, it's 3:45 in the am and I'm hungry. Still dreaming of my maple farm somewhere between Burlington and the Canadian border.
While I like privacy and the great outdoors, I'd also like to be within a short drive of a town of at LEAST 50k to make day trips and help keep the wife sane. I love the scenery of the Idaho, Wyoming, Montana area so I always thought about Ketchum, Idaho. BUT, LAcamper makes a good point, I HATE the cold. That said, I think I'd like to live 20-50 miles outside of Asheville, NC.
To much to leave behind down here though. My wife would lose her mind without her family and it IS quite handy with a toddler and baby on the way. Plus the father in law has enough toys and land to keep it interesting.
