Ralph's New Orleans style king cake. Far and away the best since McKinzie's closed oh so many moons ago.

There is no one answer to the question "Who makes the best King Cake?" It's far too subjective. Some people like a cinnamon based, bread type cake. Some folks like a doughnut type cake. Some like fillings and some don't. Some like a moist gooey cake and some like it dry. To each his own. Find what suits you and enjoy. I'm passing on King Cake this year altogether.....trying to lose some weight.:(

Randazzo's is the best by far.
What you have to do is get there before they open, say 4:30am. Wait in your warm vehicle for a couple people to get in line, then jump in before it gets too long. They will open within 15 minutes of people forming a line.
Then, BUY AS MANY AS YOU CAN TO LAST YOU UNTIL MARDI GRAS SO YOU NEVER HAVE TO GO BACK.

    Works every time.

    That's a good point.

I know people that are obsessed with the dry king cakes that have the gritty sand sprinkles on them, like this:

And then there are the people obsessed with this:

Then there are the people who don't know what a King Cake is:

    Manny Randazzos.

Haydels if you want less sweet, more classic.

The "McKenzie's" are only for those nostalgic about eating bread with sugar on it that falls off when you try to eat it.

The other Randazzos are all copycats, and arguably not even Randazzos. ;) Diane is the ex-wife of Manny and Nonna isn't a person. Camellia City came much later. But they're all good. Just not as good as Manny's.

Y'all talking about these gourmet high dollar king cakes, and I'm happy with Rouse's. I like Randazzo's in Slidell, Paul's in Pickyernose, but before I drop three times the money, I'd just as soon go to Rouse's.

    Rouses can be surprisingly good.

They can also be very disappointing.

More often than not, they're overcooked.
