What point is this asshat trying to make?

I fail to see the logic in desecrating an object that represents the rights that he is exercising.

    There will be a counter-protest:

    http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1208470366&ref=profile#!/event.php?eid=186678751382858

"LSU students will be coming together on the Parade Grounds on May 11th at 1:00 p.m. to sing the National Athem and say the Pledge of Allegiance in a patriotic response to the detestable burning of the American Flag that will occur on the Parade Grounds on the same day, May 11th at noon."

"Please join us in exercising our First Amendment right at 1 p.m. and pay your respects to our country and our flag."

Isn't burning the flag a crime?

    §116. Flag desecration

Flag desecration is the act of any person who shall intentionally, in any manner, for exhibition or display:

    (1) Place or cause to be placed any word, mark, design or advertisement of any nature upon any flag; or

    (2) Expose to public view any flag, upon which has been printed or otherwise produced, or to which shall have been attached any such word, mark, design, or advertisement; or

    (3) Expose to public view, or have in possession for sale or any other purpose, any article of merchandise, or thing for holding or carrying merchandise, upon or to which shall have been produced or attached any flag, in order to advertise, call attention to or decorate such article; or

    (4) Publicly mutilate, defile, or by word or act cast contempt upon any flag.

The word "flag" as used herein shall mean any duly authorized flag, shield, standard, color or ensign of the United States, the State of Louisiana, or the Confederate States of America, or any copy thereof.

Whoever commits the crime of flag desecration shall be fined not more than one hundred dollars, or imprisoned for not more than ninety days, or both.

    Amended by Acts 1960, No. 544, §1.

So political opinions aside, why would LSU allow a preplanned crime to be commited? And why shouldn't there be cops waiting to arrest this douche the moment he desecrates the flag?

Someone told me about this and I'm f*cking pissed!!!

It is illegal to punch a flag burner but the fine is only $20... Seeing as I'm overseas I'll put up $500 for someone to go beat his ass for me
He is an American exercising a protected right under the constitution and I hope no one harms him.

We do not live in Commie China or under a dictatorship like Iran where we have no rights, and our ability show contempt toward govt. is meet with gunfire or death.

The best way to treat him is similar to an internet troll.

Don't acknowledgment him, don't give him publicity, don't show him reactions, and don't spread the word of his deeds.

    :)

The Supreme Court ruled that prosecuting someone for burning the flag was unconstitutional.

From what Rebel88 posted in #12, it looks like a misdemeanor.:o

Can students go around LSU and indiscriminately start fires where ever they want? This has nothing to do with free speech. It's a matter of public safety.

I know I never say much on here, but I live a mile from LSU and this has really given me the red ass. This loser's name is Benjamin Haas. He's a grad student at LSU and obviously mommy and daddy didn't hug him (or spank him) enough when he was growing up. I wonder if their other children turned out to be American-hating citizens as well.

Well, we're all pretty worked up about this guy and everything that he's planning to do in just a few hours. But I hope that maybe we can get a few laughs out of these:
