I would touch, the trigger, Listen for the boom, and watch its owner cry.

Kids shouldnt be terrorized going to and from the bus stop. Click, boom, sob

I had a very similar situation with a dog coming after the kids going to the bus stop. No one would do anything until someone was hurt. Bit the kid on his boot one day so it didn't leave a mark. I went with the kids a couple times, nothing happened. Then I watched from a distance and I noticed the dog would chase them when they ran. If they walked he was less inclined to chase. But he would get up and adopt a "prowl" stance and freak the kids out causing them to run. Owner stopped it a time or 2, rope stopped it a couple times, but I had the same Russian Roulette feeling. It was only a matter of time.

So one day I ran to the bus stop. I fed the dog my boot, so there was not question I was attacked, and then fed him some led. If your dog has been taught to be a predator, a well timed run may bring that out

Alright guys, lots of good information. I'll try Animal Control / Humane Society / Rescue / Moving the bus stop / and my new hobby "sprinting" on the weekends up and down my street with a wig.

I don't need the dog to die, the owner will just get another dog (his last dog was put to sleep for aggressive behavior), plus the pit has puppies right now. Don't get me wrong, if that pit gives me a "legal" reason she'll go nite nite.

Too bad about the laws concerning the school bus stop, but the law is the law. Guess I'll have to take a bite to the left arm so I can give it a present with the right hand. I do have great medical insurance.

I'd really like to see the pit taken from this low life to crush what little moral he has. This drunk can't even take care of himself let alone the dogs. He just repeats the same stuff I'm so sorry, it will never happen again, I'll kill her if she bites the kids.

Returningliberty, send me a pm with the information needed to get the momma/puppies to a Canine Rescue. I am VERY confident I can persuade the owner to consider this. If he don't I'll own his house when his dog bites me.

I am station at Barksdale but live in Bossier Parish (I know not very specific, but it is for a good reason). Not that I don't trust you all to keep a secret ;0)

JR1572, a lot of those fit. Animal control is aware of the violations, but did not pursue. I was given other advice "off the record."

Wife carries a cutting tool and a big "walking stick" I made for her. She is to the point where she drives down and back. I like it that way.

Once again thanks for the information. I'll update once we get this hammered out.

you may also want to contact your parish council person to see who within parish gov or the parish attorney who could help with code enforcement.

You haven't shot this thing yet??? public property (certainly a bus stop) should be a safe place. I love dogs dont get me wrong, but kids a wife? Shoot and deliver it to your neighbor, with a warning.

IMO, I would definitely get a voice recorder and probably a video recorder. I would extensively read up on relevant animal control laws.

Then I'd start recording proof of the dog's behavior that was in violation of animal control laws and call animal control. After presenting my complaint and my proof, I would record any refusal of the animal control officer to take appropriate action. While animal control was still present, I'd call the sheriff's office to make a complaint about the animal control officer's violation of 14:134. I would continue up the chain in that fashion until I had embarrassed enough people into doing their jobs, or accumulated enough substance for a legitimate lawsuit.

Meanwhile, I might also poison the dog discretely?

Looks like you have Parish and La State laws covering this. Call the Sheriff or Police Chief and ask them if they mine doing their job before something really bad happens

Also, carrying your handgun within 1,000ft of school property or functions (IF you have business with the school, which escorting your kids to the bus certainly applies) its not legal. If you had No business with the school, that law wouldn't apply IIRC.

According to LSP, if you have a CHL you are permitted to carry to and at the bus stop, but obviously cannot step onto the bus with a weapon. I recently inquired about this very thing and have, in writing, (email) that escorting your children to the bus stop while carrying is perfectly legal. I assume that all bets are off if the bus stop is within 1000' of an actual school, but I didn't inquire about that particular since it did not apply in my case.

Try macing it with bear mace if it attacks again. Maybe it will learn and avoid you and yours. Sorry, I'm not your target demographic, but those actions are VERY defensible I would think, legally, and noone would be permanently harmed. Anyway, animals hate pain just like we do, and if you mace it before it gets too worked up, maybe it will associate you/yours with that response and leave you alone. Animals are like that sometimes. Maybe not, but worth a try.

Jwg that is good advice. However have you ever tried to mace a charging animal? It isn't exactly easy lol. You would just about be better off swinging a pocket life at it...
My vote which I have found works well is a loud air horn yes the kind you have on a boat. They hate it.

Guess I'll have to take a bite to the left arm so I can give it a present with the right hand.

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES allow that Pit to latch on to your left arm so you can shoot it with your right hand. He is liable to bite deep and shake you. In Hollywood, they wrap the hero's arm in gauze and he goes on to fighting more bad guys. In real life a Neurosurgeon tries to mitigate the nerve damage and a Plastic Surgeon takes skin from your ass and grafts it to your forearm in an attempt to make it look normal. You may eventually own the idiots house when all is said and done. Maybe you sell it for $100K and that's what? Less than two years salary and your career is now over because you have limited use of your arm from the elbow down.

If the dog comes at you DO NOT let it get close enough to bite you. You and the idiot owner already have enough evidence on file to back up your story. Shoot it to the ground and perform a "coup de grace" if it is still alive. Make sure you have a decent capacity magazine in your pistol and make sure you have a spare. Moving dogs are hard to hit with a pistol, especially when they are moving towards you and your adrenaline is up.

Seems to me that this animal needs to be removed permanently and the owner dealt with according to the law. Everything else seems to be only treating the symptoms.

If it's a dangerous animal running loose, sooner or later it's going to be someone's problem.
