Yeah sounds just like a perfect "rule of law" that the atf could manipulate misquote abuse and defy in order to disarm the American people.

You're only supposed to be barred from owning a firearm if you've been declared by a judge to be legally incompetent. Medical records have absolutely nothing to do with this - it's a purely legal procedure that, of course involves doctors testifying and multiple doctors involved in getting the process even involved, but there is absolutely no basis for this in medical records. They're are essentially trying to rip into your private medical records to find everyone with a "mental illness related" diagnosis and use that to confiscate their guns.

What classifies a mental illness? Doctors opinion? Or prescription? Can one challenge a mental illness diagnosis
    Hypothetically thinking here
If one experiences the lost of a loved one, and are prescribed medication do yo lose gun rights?
If a doctor annotates you experienced a traumatic event. Do you lose gun rights?
Can one challenge a doctors diagnosis (opinion) if your determined mentally ill..

You very well could. Lots of people are on drugs that are used only for the treatment of things like depression and anxiety, both of which are mental illnesses. If you're honest with your doctor about how much you drink during a week you could meet the criteria for substance abuse disorder, another mental illness. This has the potential to cover a lot of people.

Under the current system you have to go through multiple levels of review before even getting to the judge and panel of experts who can legally declare you to be incompetent. A legal judgement through the courts is the only thing that is supposed to trip the background check. You have to be declared legally incapable of making your own decisions. Refractory schizophrenics who are incapable of perceiving reality or people with advanced dementia are what we're talking about, or those who are brain dead. This pronouncement essentially strips us of the many, many layers of protection that the current system offers by forcibly opening medical records.

By forcing states to invade private medical records there are all sorts of things that could fall under the heading "mental illness". Get a one time shot of ativan before going into surgery, you must be anxious, you must have anxiety, anxiety is a mental illness therefore you cannot own guns. It's by intention deliberately broad and vague to apply to as many people as possible in the hopes of using the states to confiscate as many guns as possible.

Anticipate a court case sometime this year and donate to the SAF to fund the legal challenges that will protect doctor-patient confidentiality.

Exactly they will start with the truely mentally deranged because "who wouldn't agree" that "some who is a danger to society or themselves shouldn't have access to a gun". Next those who suffer from paranoia. Then they will go after people who battle depression. Then those who were treated for adhd as a child. Then those who suffer truma. Then the rest of gun owner because "by now the only reason you would want one of those scary things is if you are paranoid."
