I had a buddy spray my HK with some KG Gun Kote. Xgrips still need to be done OD and mag baseplates also going to be grey. Pretty happy with it overall, definitely different!

What color is that? Looks really blue in first pic and a duller blue in second pic. But you said base plates still need to be done OD?

are you looking for people's opinion?
if so, i'm not diggin the color, but i do like the concept. maybe something in FDE or OD or even in graphite grey...
personally i'd try it on a lesser gun, like a glock (let the flame war begin!!) =P

The slide/small components is a flat gray, baseplates will also be done in the gray while the Xgrip will be OD.
Once I get it back I'll post better pictures, the flash in the first picture makes it look way off in color.

Yeah first pic was like.. OMG that poor gun but second pic looks good. Not my personal color preference but wouldn't stop me from buying it like the first pic would have.

I think HK's just look great Black. Light painted colors on guns don't do anything except FDE maybe, but if your happy with it thats all that matters. I will admit its a nice clean paint job.

I don't understand at what point gun owners got tricked into thinking a spray paint makes a good looking finish. Sorry. I mean a really fancy spray paint. You know what looks good but takes work, skill, and experience? Bluing a handgun.

Now you should totally get a soldering gun and stipple it too. People are starting to think that they're not defacing a handgun with that too.

So, putting a quality protective gun coat over a shitty HK factory job is defacing? Yeah. Ok.

Hey, glad you like it. Good thing I'm the one who will be carrying it.

Not to start an argument about it, cause in the end, it's YOUR gun and you can paint it any color YOU want.

I happen to think HK's look fine the way they are and I have never seen a "quality protective coat" that was any better than what HK puts on their guns to begin with and I personally have never seen a "shitty HK factory job".

I still think it looks funky. I'm not commenting on the quality of the job whoever did spraying it, it's the colors #1 and the fact that anyone would NEED to cover an HK finish unless it had sustained some serious abuse.

ANY sprayed on finish is just that, a SPRAYED on finish. A fancy paint job and like any paint, it will peel off, flake and scratch, I don't care who does it or how much they charge.

Believe it or not to some folks it's a utilitarian tool not a magical totem, art object, or prized possession. If stippling it with a soldering iron helps me control recoil better, and get a surer grip then I'm all in favor of that sort of defacement.

Keep after 'em with the dremel, soldering irons, and rattle cans. They're yours. Hit 'em with belt sanders that'll help the grip. What ever. They're yours. But don't kid yourselves into thinking that you're doing anything more than personalizing them to you.

Unless the finish was trash beforehand and you're covering pitting for example. Yes I think it is.

I had assumed you wanted people's honest opinions when you posted an images. Don't ask for opinions tigertaylor if you only want to hear positive things. To me you took an expensive quality handgun and made it appear cheap.

I can't believe you guys care so much that another guy had his gun coated.

Leadfoot - not necessarily true. Many high tech spray on coatings exist that when properly applied are ridiculously strong and wear resistant. Of course, when improperly applied even the greatest coating in the world will perform like shite.

The ONLY coating that I personally have seen that did not wear is NP3. I seriously do not know what is in NP3 that makes it such a good coating, but the stuff is absolutely unbelievable.

I have seen just about every other type of Duracoat, Ceracoat, K-Kote, KG Cote.. they all wear badly, especially when the gun they're applied to is carried alot and is in out of a holster a lot.

NP3 is expensive, but I believe it is worth every penny. If I personally were going to have a gun coating of ANY sort, other than hard chrome, it would be NP3.
