Sports South had them on special for $469 (plus tax and shipping) dealer price, but they are out of stock at the moment. I hope that gives you something to go by.
P.S. I'm not a dealer, but I know one's login...haha.
If you can find one for under 700 then buy it, I had been on the look out for one at 750 in NE La and no luck finding one for 3 months so I went with the Savage 10FP in 308 and 24" heavy barrel. Like it alot, got a new stock for it and glasses, bipod and base/rings.
I'm looking for a deer rifle. I'm just starting out in Deer hunting, I need something to get familiar with before next season. I'm thinking a 700, possibly in the synthetic/ stainless configuration chambered for 308 is what I want. My rifle knowledge is extremely limited (think: .22's). I'm willing to bet I can get Jim's Firearms to order it for me (I know a few people there including a few of the long time former employees). What's the opinion? I want something that I'm not scared to get caught in the rain with and can take a beating (walking though woods tracking deer if needed)
for hunting a .30-06 is pretty much the best thing you can get...can buy ammo anywhere that sells it b/c its the most common hunting rifle in the entire world.
funny that ya'll say that about 30-06, because I was going back and forth between the two rounds, I would be open to either.
Glad to see good reviews on this rifle. I'll probably be buying around mid-March (I've got so much going on I'll be lucky to wipe my ass through the end of February). When I get a little closer I'll start hitting up the local gun shops to see what I can find, I'll also have to start looking at scopes at the same time too, but that's a whole different topic.
