I didn't realize my gun handling prowess was in such a state of besmirchood.

I do so, and hereby should be noted, on this day, challenge the besmircher to pistols at noon!

Hey, no one besmirched your pistol handling.

    Just your midget hands.

And yes, I had to look up "besmirched" in the dictionary.

Well, I picked up one of my earlier M&Ps from a gunsmith buddy who reworked a botched trigger job for me. The M&P now has the Apex Duty/Carry Action Enhancement Kit, a new factory striker and trigger assy. I put a couple of hundred rounds through it last Thursday and am running it through a Rob Pincus class this weekend. That should bump the round count up to 1300 or so. I'll let you know what I find. With stock triggers, I've probably put 8 or 10K through four different full size M&Ps [1 .40 & 3 9mm] and never experienced this dead trigger thing.

I have shot thousands of rounds through a full size M&P 9 and even more than 10K rounds through my 9mm Pro with no trigger issues, not one (of course, I kept parts all stock). My full size was sent back as it was a very early production model as around 1K rounds, it broke an extractor. Both of my pistols had decent trigger pulls on them and did not find the need to change out the sears/springs.

Paul, please report back. I'd be willing to bet you don't have any issues. My fullsize didn't experience it until ~1000rds, I have about 1400 through my compact with no issues. Both pistols have the Apex kit.

Regardless of the outcome, I'd send you sear block in to Apex to have it upgraded to the new larger sear spring and plunger. At $25 it's cheap insurance especially if the M&P is more than a range/training gun.

Steve, I've done a lot of research on the dead trigger issue since Sam informed me about the issues. I plan on doing a complete write-up on the issue and how to fix/prevent it this evening. Although only the fullsize had issues, and I attribute some of it to limp wristing (both shooters that experienced it have midget hands :D), both of my M&Ps have been taken out of commission while the problem is resolved. S&W has made some design changes, and all current production guns are good to go. I'm not too stressed about it, it's expected when jumping into a new platform while they are still fresh out of the oven. I will elaborate more later...but long story short, worst case scenario is a $25 fix and mailing off the sear housing block.

I don't shoot like a girlie boy. :squint:

In all seriousness if the issue is small hands, wouldn't it be prudent to test that theory with another similar gun in a set of small hands? That's information I'd be interested in if it makes a difference.

SW claims that the MP was designed from the get-go for the .40 s&W. But the only guns I've heard of having this problem have been 40s. I have a 9MM pro a early 40 pro and a new 40 pro. The early one and the 9 both had the same size (small) sear spring and plunger but I only experienced problems with the 40. I sent it to S&W for the fix. which consisted of putting in a new sear block with the larger sear spring. They did it for free. The new 40 came with the large plunger/spring. It has ~2500 rnds fired with no problems. The 9 has over 5k through it with no problems. All have Apex competition kits in them
