Traditional "its fine just not in my backyard". Lets all go buy pedal bikes, with no rubber tires or plastic parts.
The state has the power, along with the local gov. to get huge sums of revenue while instilling some serious industry shaping safety/enviro regulations. Its a win for the industry and economy IF its done right. BUT, the argument as always, will be without reason on all sides. One side will say money, the other will say my water will catch on fire.

Via Yahoo......Nothing specific for LA. A bunch of chatter about the BLM and budgets.
The government has failed to inspect thousands of oil and gas wells it considers potentially high risks for water contamination and other environmental damage, congressional investigators say.

Yeah they would rather close down RV trails and herd cattle.

I guess I should be all against Entergy's nuke plant down the road too...? We don't see lower power costs, but we live with the "risk". Well damn, we also have a couple of chem plants, refineries, railways, the damn river... oh this has got to stop. I don't think I will sleep tonight.

Im just FWY, I get the locals arguments... especially with the water risk. BUT again, the argument should be made with reason so it doesn't come off as the "sure its cool, not in my backyard though"

I'll be all for fracking, or drilling through our aquifer just as soon as the oil company that wants the drilling pays for the water treatment stations, and plumbing to all of the residents of St. Tammany parish that currently use well water that taps directly into the aquifer. There are a lot of them. The house I grew up in was well water, no filter, no processing. Oh, yeah, the cities up here too. They get their water from it, not the Mississippi, like New Orleans.

By the way folks, there is a town hall meeting at Pelican Park tonight to voice your opposition to this.

You know, after excusing myself from this thread long enough to do some reading on the subject, I've come to the conclusion that everyone wants oil and natural gas, they just want it drilled from somewhere else. It's absurd.

Louisiana tells Alaska to get over it, we need it.
Alaska tells Louisiana to get over it, we need it.
Liberals say we are killing the pretty flowers in Montana- a pipeline is out of the question.
Republicans say "there are no pretty flowers in Montana. Bring the oil."
Louisiana residents debate an internet thread stating "fracking is great... just not in my town!"

Madwabbit posts in said thread and says "its fuel. we need it, and we don't get to choose where it's located. suck it up buttercup."

Those videos were found to be falsified. Guy had a propane tank hooked into his water line. Kinda stupid if you ask me.

I also just read that St. Tam parish council voted to stop all drilling in the parish. It's a combined law which also includes having to register all high cap mags and AR type assault weapons.

Louisiana Residents Gear Up For Fracking Fight Just Outside New Orleans
    By Julie Dermansky, www.desmogblog.com
    May 12th, 2014

--On May 13, the Department of Natural Resources’ office of conservation,
which regulates oil and gas drilling in Louisiana,
will hold a hearing to consider issuing a unit permit — the first step in the permitting process.

--Rep. Tim Burns, R-Mandeville, asked to delay the permitting process, but was denied.

*There is no legal provision to take the scheduled hearing off the docket,*
Patrick Courreges, communications director for the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources, told DeSmogBlog.

As for what could prevent the permit from being issued,
the short answer, according to Courreges,
is geology, not the public’s concerns about fracking.

That's a way to settle the issue calmly. Tell them their concerns are futile.

Anyway looks like the hearing is tomorrow.

    At previous meetings;

At the start of the program, Ragan Dickens of the oil and gas association, described fracking as a safe process that does not harm the water table, pointing out that over a million wells have been fracked in the U.S. over the past 60 years. The audience hissed and snickered.

He was countered by Scott Eustis, a coastal wetlands specialist with the Gulf Restoration Network who said that St. Tammany contains the highest numbers of endangered and rare species in the state, as well as the highest number of scenic waterways, which will be threatened by the fracking industry.

    And then this bit

Honoré then compared the fight against fracking to the American Revolution :eek3:
and told the audience the Green Army was with them.

*The only person who is going to save us is us,* he proclaimed.
*It starts right here in St. Tammany Parrish, let the revolution start here!* he said to thunderous applause.

    Jeez..... lol

The kid in the middle...his face says it all .... while his sister checks his pulse :mamoru:

Then this sir is a reasonable place to start the debate and negotiations if it comes to it. The people who deal with it, and at risk should get the perks. Free water for the public/commercial is a nice start.

Good. The sooner we all start using .30 rather than poodle shooters the better off we will all be!:p
