Often when folks "measure" their guns in a competition or long range work, they find that their rifle isn't as good as they thought. Sometimes, just from shooting more, folks often find out that those 2-shots-touching groups that made them call the rifle custom-quality, is really about 1.5-2 MOA when the shoot a 5-shot string.

After starting to handload and get interested in accuracy, I have found that lots of "good shootin" rifles ain't nearly as consistent as people think. Truing remedies this. Such custom work is intended to make the gun shoot consistently -- the same -- period. If an off the shelf job genuinely does that for you, consider yourself very very luck -- cause it's rarer than many want to let on.

You only may or may not need to do that. It's more likely shooting a small primer caliber such as the x47L. It further depends on what primer you are using as a primer with a harder cup will allow for more pressure before having issues.
