Get the Humanitarian Daily Rations instead of MRE.. and stock up on canned food, freeze dried and/or dehydrated. If not, you have to wait in line with the rest of the savages ,after the fact and get a couple handed out to you.
Used to, they would give you multiple cases at a time.

A decent mre alternative is dehydrating or freeze drying food and then vacuum sealing it. Initial costs can be a bit much but it pays itself off eventually. I have a air fryer/dehydrator combo.

    Kennah!
I've eaten far more MREs than I can recall. Many months' worth of them at least. All I can say is that they do serve a purpose and some of the newer varieties are actually decent by all accounts. That said, while I do have some fresh MREs stockpiled (remember to rotate them out on a regular basis), I have far more freeze dried meals stored aside for me and my family. They're extremely expensive if you buy commercially but proper freeze dried foods are good for over 25 years and taste like "real" food while maintaining the majority of their nutritional value. Just a rant.

Print a copy of the MRE Cookbook. It is valuable, and access to online versions might be limited in an emergency.

Hats off to the McIlhenny Company and Tabasco for producing this awesome cookbook, and for the predecessor C Ration Cookbook (received my first copy from McIlhenny, along with a supply of Tabasco, in Vietnam in 1968).

Why would I do that when I have ample dirt and bugs outside I could eat instead...?

Roflol! I highly recommend you trying the dung beetle! It could be crunchy, crusty, and even crappy…. :puke:
Have you ever seen the movie “Snowpiercer”? They probably would love to feed us that nasty bug food!
