Honestly when it comes to these devices there is no wiggle room. For water filtration my primary unit is a MSR Miniworks EX, but even it will not catch viruses. For viruses I carry a MSR MIOX pen. Cryptosporidium and giardia are pretty nasty and I've never been able to trust those water bottle filters with my drinking water.

If it comes to drinking questionable water, I would think a few loperamide (antidiarrheal) tabs are always a good idea to have within reach - esp for "adventures" longer than a day or two.

Won't be purified, it will be sterilized. For it to be purified you would have to distil it.

I got one of these i would drink it with if I needed. inline filter

maybe with a few drops of bleach in the camelbak.
