The problem is people want free stuff. I've had employees quit working for me because they were gonna lose food stamps!

Take this with a grain of salt, because I am friends with several teachers... I was told that common core can work IF, and this is a big IF, implemented properly. One would need to learn the Common Core way from day one. In other words, we can't take them midway through their education and just brutally switch them to common core. THAT is one of the major issues with it!

As for myself, I can't say that I am for or against common core because I don't know all the ins and outs of it. I will ask this though, where exactly does Louisiana rank in education compared to the rest of the nation? Do you honestly think the way we have been doing things is working?

Granted, when I was younger, I took part in some government backed experimental learning programs. I found the activities boring and ended up getting into a shitload of trouble for computer hacking... I discovered that the mainframe housing the accelerated reading program also housed games and I found the games to be more fun. As a result, I was kicked out of the accelerated reading program and a lot of people were embarrassed that a 7th grade student could hack their system the way I did.

I think the idea of common core is really the kind of thing our education really needs as it develops critical thinking and problem solving. The issue I have is with implementation. Cc shouldn't be replacing Math Class, it should be in addition to Math.

CC does neither. If you want to know what its about look at whos funding it and listen to what he has to say about it. Its simply the next step in social engineering.

Actually, that is exactly what CC is for. This country is going to need that to compete with the emerging economies of China and India. There is more hunger for advancement there. Some people recognize it, and developed something for it.

How it is being implemented is a problem.

That being said, people all around like to inject their little ideas to make the world what they want, just like making cute little memes and chain emails purporting about how the new world order is going control the populace.

Could you elaborate on the implementation? How are they implementing it and what way would you like to see them implement it? I'm not disagreeing with you. I'm legitimately curious. I have 2 degrees and I was completely lost when I helped my 9th grade cousin with math homework. According to her, they watch online videos of math problems being worked and the homework was basically the same way.

No tinfoil here and not against it because of NWO mumbo jumbo. I'm against it because it is federal overreach and a fancy way to bilk billions of dollars out of the tax payers. Now I know some moonbats in Kalifornia did, in fact, insert some crazy left wing trash in parts of the curriculum, but those were isolated cases and quickly remedied. What I am saying is CC is less about control, even less about standards and ALL about the money. Its true "core" is ALL about TESTING. It's about who gets paid to produce and administer the tests, who gets to score the tests and who gets to INTERPRET the tests. It will also go hand in hand with Charter Schools, because when a school consistently fails or is interpreted to fail the tests then the doors are opened up for a Charter School......and I don't have to tell you folks in South LA about Charter schools. CC is about money and all of it is tied together. Big corporations and charter school outfits are standing on the sidelines drooling over us right now.

Standards are a good thing. We need better standards. We just don't need Bloomberg, Grigsby and the Walton Foundation telling us how to do it, or telling us where to spend our educational dollars.

Moot point now. They won the war and performed the final coup de grace(s) last night and it will never be undone. All that is left now is assimilation.

They rammed it through and hastily implemented it before any opposition could be organized. The students & teachers suffered dearly for it. They could have been given ample time to at least adjust to it, but the people behind the implementation knew if it were done in such a manner that they would have to fight more opposition.

In a nutshell, to me it appears they replaced math with common core math. I think they should have a critical thinking/problem solving class in addition to math.

I think the skills are important, but so are the traditional skills.

No doubt from me on the money part, there is always someone who will take advantage if given the option.

At this point in life I have worked with enough highly educated adults that were incapable of doing their job unless everything went as planned and worked exactly as designed. Throw one problem at them and they are completely useless and incapable of "troubleshooting" or just "figuring out" the problem. That is why I am in favor of common core. I'm hoping common core can teach some common sense.

Well, you will get your wish, though there is a good chance it won't be called Common Core anymore because of the stigma surrounding the name. It will all be exactly the same though and will continue to consist of teaching students how to take the tests.

Just listen to Bill Gates. No memes, no Alex Jones. He tries not to talk about it directly but he stands to make another fortune in the implementation and testing. Hes not shy about the idea that the test will be the standard for the classroom. Whomever writes the test directs the classroom.

This is 100% true. I just don't bring up the Gates money because you quickly get lumped in with the tinfoilers.

There would be no issue from me about CC if they did not teach my kids their idea of Social Studies! If you folks think they aren't trying to brainwash your kids with phony leftist BS you are not helping your kids with their homework enough. When I read this stuff I almost lose my **** every time.

My kid had a week of them studying the US Constitution and there was not just a mere mention of the 2nd Amendment; THERE WAS NO MENTION OF IT! As in, nothing at all! They are constantly trying to prop up blacks and women in all the history lessons (which on it's face is not a problem), out of context. I get that they want more inclusion in the history of this country, but these people they cite, I have NEVER heard of. Even after I looked them up!

They are constantly harping on slavery! As if to make the kids hate the founders because of what they did. There is never a mention of the blacks in Africa who were capturing and selling the other blacks! Only the bad white European Americans that were buying! They are slanting the way they want kids to think about this country! It is disingenuous, it's pre-planned, and it is tainting their ideas about early America.

Teach them reading, writing, spelling, and math; with Common Core, or apple core, I don't care. But leave the life history stories alone!

This electorate is stupid! They bought into Vitter's infidelity being more of an issue than his record (which is consistent with a proven fiscal conservative).

This country will continue to get morons elected because we are a people that gets our marching orders from tvs and smart phones; and smear ads work!

When you hear people say, "How did this tax get on my bill! I never voted for that!?!!" Tell them, yes you did! Saturday, November 21!

There are plenty of reasons to not like Vitter. He was a bad option. He should have not made it to the run off.

Vitter didn't lose because of smear ads. He made his bed, he cab sleep in it!

Now Louisiana gets to sleep in the bed it made by having a runoff of two losers. Thank everyone who voted for Vitter the first time around!
