In an out and out real calamity, such as the old "Mad Max" movies were portraying, will important papers and documents and land leases really matter anymore?

What, in such a disaster, would really be important besides having 1 gun, bit of food you can carry, few matches, good knife, water purification tablets.

    Any thoughts?

Remember "Rambo, First Blood". All he had was his knife.

Is "Rambo" really relevant here? It's fiction after all. When an "event" happens you don't know whether it's "the big one" or not. If we learned anything from Hurricane Katrina it's that when the event happens all that you can depend on is that you can't know how the event will pan out.

Prepare for the worst but also prepare for the best.

Noibody ever said Rambo was relevant. Just that he had almost nothing to survive with.
You will know when the SHTF. Highway travel will be impossible. Stores will empty in one day. Electricity will be off quickly.
No transportation, essential services will be non existent. Military vehicles will be here and there but not in great numbers.
Biggest danger will be police and military and gangs. It will be everyone (family) for themself.

Would an EMP even affect a burned CD? How about a jump drive?

BTW, don't use sand bags. Buy bags of quickcrete and just let them harden.

Jump drive, possible. CD's will be fine. You can create a little emp proof safe to keep little electronics in such has EOTech sites, essentials, etc.
