It was defiantely a cottonmouth and is now a good snake! Head was folded up against the body and pic doesnt show it.
Wife is terrified of any snakes, but is coming around to identifying some of the non poisonous types and I make her have a look at them when I come across them. The fact that she took this picture of a dead snake while I was 200' away in the house is a HUGE leap from what she used to be.

Being an old guy and knowing some of you snake panelists personally, this thread has been a hoot.

    EdMan, right on.

David, Veterinarians don't have to fool with HICFA. Their patients families don't sue them if they don't make it. Their clients pay cash. They don't have to wear neckties.

SigArmed, if I can't immediately ID one as a king snake or an indigo snake, I'll kill it in an instant. Dead snake = good.

As one who has shot thousands of water moccasins, it is very hard to hit them in the head with a pistol, especially if they are moving. A long stick is better than a shotgun.

Thanks, all, for the humor. Now, kiss and make-up.
