The NOPD officers I know do not care.
I use an old Sears bolt-action .22 with CB Long. Once I shot a big one with my HK Mark 23. It stopped immediately.

I already own that gun, but I'd have to get the silencer and the threaded barrel.

The dog died, however , so the opossums are no longer the problem anymore.

Y'all really need some country life. This works wonders on them. I tried Emperor's suggestion and found I couldn't see crap at night. Needed a red dot and a light.
