Forum honestly looks pretty good. It's easy to navigate, and the colors/fonts, etc. don't bother my eyes.

I agree that comments (not ad-stomping, but comments...) should be allowed in the classified section. I think it will help both buyers, and sellers, and the forum in general. Why list something on other super high-traffic forums when you can list it here, if you want to do a local deal only? Well, the only reason would be their FS section is pretty impressively run. One thing I see time and time again are comments helping sell an item. If one person types it, 10 people probably thought it and didn't. Just my .02

    Ill admit it too,

It was a kick in the ass to read the funny comments.
SHOOT ME - but it was FUN and I had FUN. We all had fun.
and you know what, FUN is what brought people to the web site.
But it also brought the understanding that if you were gonna be a DERP you will get called out on it..........
[Yes, I agree, the fun gets out if control. ]

There are a few new Ideas that should bring back a little fun........... Maybe ad some PAYING members for everyones sake......... and let us start bashing some of the DERPS that joined the
forum that need to be weeded out. In the end, we weeded out the contributing Old schoolers by taking out the fun.

there has to be a happy medium............and It will never be perfect either.

Now all you gotta do is control the mess! Maybe your log in name should be changed from AustinBR to "You Gotta say UNCLE"

It's been mentioned time and time again but I'll throw it out there.

Allow comments in the classified section

I agree. I'd LOVE to have comments in the classified section. SO much more efficient.

I'm all for comments back in the classified section. I surf here on a smart phone and answering PM's and such on it isn't fun. Let's keep it simple.

Comments in the classified, hasn't been the same forum since they were disallowed.

The past problems with comments in the classifieds now seem so trivial compared with the current problems caused by not allowing comments in the classifieds. If we promise to never complain about the comments in the classifieds will you please bring them back?

    1. The majority of the members of Bayoushooter.com are upset at the current decision to disallow comments in the classifieds and would like them reinstated.

...end of list. It seems that the powers that be have forgotten that without members there would be no Bayoushooter.com and no advertising checks coming in from Brownells etc....

I favor allowing comments in the Classified section. I dislike the PMs unless it's for exchanging information to complete a sale that the parties might not want public, like phone numbers. If comments must be moderated, so be it.

Is it a financial reason we do not have comments in the classified section ?

Because it appears that more are "FOR" comments in the classified.
but the more we scream "Comments back in the classified Section" the Savier you get knocking the ideas down.

therefore there must be a financial reason ?

I remember the day when comments in the classified section allowed us to weed out the "Unwanted"

I just personally hate PM's, it is pain the majority of the time.

I do agree that if people post a complete and proper add then most questions will be answered. But sometimes there are questions that multiple people have. For that reason it is easier to answer/ask them in the add.

There are also some people that ask questions that others may not even think of. So those could be answered in the add.

I am not against a separate section for adds that allow comments but it could get very confusing really fast.

I have been away from the forum for a while and have recently come back and I noticed the change right away. I too used to browse the firearms classifieds and even look at the ones I was not interested in because of the information found in the comments.

    Comments in the classifieds....

I'd rather know somebody is an asshat from seeing their previous comments on other folks ads than find out for myself when I'm in the middle of a deal with them.

What do you mean? You're asking if the possibility of allowing comments in the classifieds is there or if this conversation is pointless?

Im really wondering if its worth bringing up anymore?

So in other words is it up for discussion with all of the mods and the members that are here or is Austin speaking for all the mods when we are trying to find a solution to make everyone happy? Not making yall guys out to be the bad guys or trying to call anyone out.

Will it still be a resounding no after everyone put up there ideas for making it possible or is it pointless for them to even bother in the first place?

Are they beating a dead horse so to speak?

I had an idea myself that I would like for y'all to discuss. How about a NEW forum in the Marketplace where ANY item can be sold. This forum would have the normal rules and maybe a few tailored for it specifically, but the exception would be that people could reply to ads. Sellers would have a choice of posting in that new forum OR in the current styled marketplace, but NOT both. Thoughts?

you are complicating things now. people will begin to surf the classified section allowing comments and the "real" classified section will seem to die out. with this you are also going to see multiple ads. one in the dormant classified section and one in the free for all.

the forum did wonderful with comments in the classifieds for years.

I am talking about live chat vs. reply. I mean its not facebook I could mod it if no one would want to its easy. Also things like ammo deals come up..boom, just paste there everyone see's can react on it, etc.. thing's like that.

I believe that the following changes would benefit the forum:
    Only one firearm per ad.
Firearm and price clearly shown in title
Specific minimum information required in firearm ad (example: Price, Manufacturer, Model, Caliber, Barrel length, Trades (yes or no), etc)

Detailed pictures also, I think its a shame that you open a thread and there is a tiny ass picture and you are looking at a gun or something else of the nature. I take all my own pictures and host on my webserver and post at least 1920X and let the forum sub it down.

My problem with this site is the name calling and ridicule. Not everyone has the same level of expertise when it comes to guns and when someone says something out of ignorance, he is called a DERP and ridiculed. I was once ridiculed by a mod about a gun I had for sale. Haven't posted anything for sale since. I have almost 30 years experience in law enforcement. I have tried to answer questions and have been told to prove my answers. There are some cop bashers on here that don't believe anything that comes out of a cops mouth. I make very few posts. It looked like for a while everything I posted was either ridiculed or questioned.

    This^ is really sad!

This place should be a place where knowledge can be shared and gained on the same intellectual scale. It is too easy to condemn those of lesser knowledge, than it is to teach.

That brings to mind another idea! If the search function were enhanced (I believe it could be this site's strongest attribute), members with generic questions about gun related topics (those questions that have been discussed on here ad nauseam since the stone age), where the answers never change, could also be accessible by those hungering for knowledge.

And those that don't want to be berated by the I-bullies that know EVERYTHING about EVERYTHING about guns, could discreetly search for themselves.

My two pennies are to require the thread owner/poster to approve all comments in their marketplace thread. If it's possible I think that is a excellent compromise. I apologize if this has already been further discussed, I don't have time to read the full thread but want to provide some input per the banners request. All hail the banner.

I agree with most here, the classifieds should have comments. I feel it did help for the buyers, sellers, and all those who were browsing that thread.

An asshat is just that! An asshat! And these people will start trouble and cause drama wherever and however they can. There is no stopping that!

As a few have mentioned the OP can report post that are hurtful or not useful to his/her ad.

We can do it, we are all adults here!

Maybe there can be a section in the marketplace strictly for vehicles (atv, golf carts, dirt bikes, and on road vehicles) all in the same section. That could possibly help someone out who is looking to find one, and for someone posting the thread.

If the search function was supped up, it could solve just about any problems.

Let's just say you are looking for a particular gun to buy (a 1911 for instance), you enter it in a search box (1911's for sale), and viola! Every 1911 that anyone has for sale shows up. Now, this is based on the ad being defined a certain way. But that shouldn't be that difficult.

The search criteria could be tweaked to allow searches in chronological order of posting. Thus eliminating many bumps.

    Something like: Search: WTS > Pistols > 1911's >sort by date >enter!

Austin, you know that is a big task, but if you can pull it off it would make the market place really nice. And for those that want to comment on ads; make it a search criteria. In other words, if the seller wants to allow comments, then the search criteria could include: Ads that seller allows comments.

I really like this idea too. I doubt it would be easy to implement though.

I started a thread in the Site Sponsors fourm under their forum. It has some great information in it. Now they are no longer a sponsor and thus their forum got removed and you can no longer respond to the thread. The thread still exist if you have the link but no one can just happen upon it because their forum in no longer visible. I understand no money = no forum but this information should still be available to view.
