How about a better donor notification system to let the moderators know that the subscription/donation has been renewed. I signed up to be a premium donor a couple of years ago and I have to contact a mod every year to get access to the extras. My donation was auto drafted back in august and I still do not have access to the extras. I'm not griping/complaining as I rarely would venture into the Premium forum or have a need for extra space in my mailbox. It is more of an fyi and I am not sure if I am the only one.

I had the same problem and PM'd Spanky this very morning and he fixed the issue within 15 minutes.

    Regarding classifieds..

How would everyone feel about relevant comments being allowed again on classifieds BUT posts did not bump back up to the top on a reply. In fact, classifieds posts would not bump at all. All posts would be in order from newest to oldest. Ideally, sold items would be marked as such. If you want to say "Hey cool gun!" then that's fine. If you want to ask a question about the gun the that's fine. If you want to say "That gun sucks and is overpriced!" then that's not fine.

I would offer an amendment to that as such, a bump to the top must be selected at the time of post by the OP AND you are only ALLOWED ONE BUMP per 24hrs. All other comments would not bump the thread/post

I started a thread in the Site Sponsors fourm under their forum. It has some great information in it. Now they are no longer a sponsor and thus their forum got removed and you can no longer respond to the thread. The thread still exist if you have the link but no one can just happen upon it because their forum in no longer visible. I understand no money = no forum but this information should still be available to view.

You want me to move that to the rifle section for you?

How much impulse buying is going on in here? My point being, if I am looking for a good skeet gun; I am not going to buy a crossbow just because it's at the top!?!

    Am I?

I would also say comments in the classifieds, although I see your point about bumping of ads I had never noticed someone intentionally abusing this (save a few morons wondered here from LA sportsman to sell their crap). While I am sure that it did occur I have still been able to sell everything I needed to in timely matter without having the thread bumped more than once a day. I view this bumping situation a minor negative.

What I really think is a major negative is a unique part of Bayou Shooter was eliminated by removing the comments. The way it use to be may have not been the most ideal for a "true" classifieds but I think it went into a major part of the culture of this site and lets face it, it kept everyone honest.

Some of the funniest threads I have read came out of the classifieds and often involved a good amount of ribbing, usually of the OP, and no one got butthurt and everything remained civil.

If anyone needs a refresher, here are some classics that come to mind.

    http://www.bayoushooter.com/forums/...Hi-Polished-380-Collectible-Pistol&highlight=
    http://www.bayoushooter.com/forums/showthread.php?78365-WTS-WTT-Glock-17-19-26&highlight=glock
    http://www.bayoushooter.com/forums/...-AN-AR-**-600-round-per-minute-AR-15-for-sale

Like a said before, this is probably not the best system for a classifieds where the goal is strictly "business". Personally I come here for entertainment, knowledge, and thoughtful gun discussions not to hawk my ****.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also, why are sponsors posting guns (non-personal) in the Firearms Classifieds and not the Sponsors Classifieds? You talk about bumping of ads but one sponsor posting multiple ads in a day has a far greater impact on visibility to other ads than one thread being bumped.

I agree. Bumping creates a king of the hill style competition to be at the top to get the most views. The only time it's useful is when there is a significant change to an ad such as a price, trades added, accessories added or removed, etc. In those cases it would be acceptable to close/delete your old thread and create a new one with those changes. Your new thread would naturally be at the top and everyone would see your price change.

    1. Keep comments out of the classifieds. The biggest problems with comments are what people decide to post. Way too much thread crapping. I loved that AR15 thread 03protege(even though the best one was "Stop BSing in the classifieds section-it was epic) listed but the fact is you can ask what you want. If someone is foolish enough to buy something like that without doing the research, shame on them. I have never seen the guys who gripe about high prices post something like" Hey man, you could get another $200 out of that gun- you should kill this ad and repost it for more." Also, too many people want to discuss how good/bad something is. Nothing like trying to sell an Eotech and getting a big post about how Eotech's are crap. Now, If the OP could delete threads that MIGHT be a good solution.

    2. Allow classified ads to be posted without pictures. I'm not sure why this was done but it makes it a bit harder for me to post items. If someone really wants a pic I can email it or post it later. I think this would go a long way to increasing the number of classifieds posted. It also makes it easier to post several smaller items.

    3. Sponsor's ads with regular classifieds. Love it. Honestly I rarely look in the Sponsor's classifieds. I think it gives the Sponsors a bigger bang for their buck. I would, however, identify a sponsor from an individual.

    4. Advertise the site. This is not so much an issue with the site but one of expanding the site. I live in Leesville. Most subscribers are in the BR/NO area. Maybe advertise on bookoo.com, ar15.com, louisianasportsman, etc to increase the number of subscribers around the state. Also a good presence at gunshows would be a great idea.

    5. A wishlist. I'm a member on one forum that let's me input a list of terms. If a post is made with those terms I am notified. Comes in really handy when I am looking to buy something.

It's been mentioned time and time again but I'll throw it out there.

Allow comments in the classified section

Hear...hear! I think this is a good thing to be able to get more information out and quit beating a dead horse and repeating your same answers!

I don't see why people complain about ads with no pics. I know what a f'n Glock looks like, if I don't like the fact that the poster can't post a pic , I won't buy it. I don't see what it hurts giving the people who are not worried about pics have a chance at a gun that would otherwise never get posted here.

And Austin, thanks for asking for opinions, it really shows you want to improve the place.

I also liked it when we had comments in the classified.

Also I sometimes wish I could click on a LIKE or Dislike icon on comments...Similar to what Nola.com has on its comment section.

Going off the "like" concept that tim9lives spoke of. Is there a way to have a "like" button that would show on the main page? This way people could see that the item for sale is nice and or the person is a respected member of the forum. Just throwing an idea out there. Not even sure it is possible. The whole like on FB thing is ok but most members on here are not friends on FB. To add to that there are prolly more members here that are not even on FB.

Facebook. I generally regard Facebook as a conduit to Hell but it might be a good way to increase site exposure.

Another suggestion- Ability to sort classifieds by region and not just category. Let me search all classifieds in a certains zip, or city or maybe regionalize it.

Good one! This makes a lot of sense.

Sorting multiple categories in a "beast" of a search feature is child's play.

Ban all threads related to cats. They are the devil's henchmen :mamoru:.......... Just messing with you man!

I can personally care less about comments in the classified section. If someone wants to buy/sell an item, comments shouldn't matter. The only way I can see it being useful is if someone is asking an outrageous amount for something, someone can call the OP on it and possibly save someone none the wiser from on overpriced POS. The argument of I don't like dealing with PM's and emails is crap. If you sell something on craigslist for example, you either put your phone number or deal with emails.

So how long does it take some of you to read the 8 total new classified ads that were posted Today in the 4 classified sections?
If they are divided here by region and type of gun we will wind up with 10 classified sections.
I am on at least one Nation Wide Gun Forum that has all Buy/Sell/Trade classifieds in one section.

They're used to be a lot more than eight, used to be a lot more traffic too. I wonder what the common denominator is?

Leave the classifieds alone. PM's are fine with dealing with questions. If you want to make comments start an off topic thread about whatever craziness you see.

Not if your search engine breaks them down by category for the individual user. The search parameters; or criteria, are endless. Results have nothing to do with the number of sections a forum has.

Want to see how an efficient one works; if you have Outlook, go to your inbox and type in a name, or a word in your search box; and enter it.
