I'm thinking negligent homicide tops.
I'm going to guess that it's a long trial and that they ultimately get off. It'll be hard to find unbiased jurors who can be persuaded, but eventually, they'll get some.
What they did is by no means right or smart, but it sounds like it may be legal due to very specific circumstances.
